About Dr. Steinman
Dr. Steinman has provided expert witness services in cases related to Mohs surgery, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology since the year 2000. He provides expert witness services in both Plaintiff and Defendant cases. He has been retained to review over 65 cases and has participated in eleven depositions and six court testimonies.
In 2024, Dr. Steinman received the American Academy of Dermatology Presidential Citation for dedication as an educator of excellence of Mohs surgery.
Also, in 2024, the American Society for Mohs Surgery appointed him an Honorary Lifetime Fellow with Distinction.
Dr. Steinman is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. He graduated magma cum laude from Pomona College and received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
He completed his dermatology residency at the University of California, San Diego and as the Overseas Registrar at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, UK – a position offered to only one non-British resident each year. He then completed his Mohs surgery and dermatologic surgery fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago with Dr. Barry Goldsmith - a founding member of the American College for Mohs surgery. Thereafter, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Steinman has over 40 years of experience in dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and Mohs surgery and has completed over 30,000 Mohs surgery cases. He has co-edited two textbooks on Mohs surgery, written 13 textbook chapters and published 55 scientific papers in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, British Journal of Medicine, JAMA Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, British Journal of Dermatology, Journal of Investigative Dermatology. ,
He is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He also co-founded and served as president of the American Society for Mohs Surgery and co-created and co-directed their annual Fundamentals of Mohs Surgery Course for 25 years.
Dr. Steinman has taught residents Mohs surgery, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology as an assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego, and as an Associate Professor and Director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at Texas A&M School of Medicine. He is an associate professor of surgery at Campbell University School of Medicine. Dr. Steinman has spoken dozens of times at national dermatology meetings on surgical and cosmetic dermatology topics.
